What do you need to have a spa day at home?

We’re not always in a position to splurge on a full-on spa day. So, it’s time to create a spa right in the comfort of your home. To bring the spa into your own home, you’re going to need a few different items that will help you relax and unwind so here at The Bath Boutique we've put together a list of essentials to get you started.

1. Bath Bombs like the ones found on our website

After a long day or week, you might want to fill up your bathtub, light some candles, and just soak away. Before you step in, you should give your bath the full spa-like experience that you deserve with a soothing bath bomb.  These spa day staples contain ingredients such as citric acid that can exfoliate your skin and oils that can replenish and hydrate you from head to toe. Plus, their relaxing scents are an added bonus that will leave your aroma delightful long after your bath. My 2 favorite scents are Oats & Honey and Oh, Cabana Boy.

2. Face cleansers

Your skincare routine doesn’t need to have 10 steps or take you 20 minutes to complete. The first step in a solid skincare ritual is a good face cleanser like CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser  it's a gentle face wash with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and glycerin to help hydrate skin without stripping moisture.

This Michael Todd facial cleansing brush is perfect to use with the CeraVe Cleanser

3. A wonderful smelling, handcrafted soap

Handcrafted soaps are so much better than any store-bought soap in my opinion, but I may be biased ;) we'll cover in another blog ALL the reasons handcrafted soap is better than store bought. But in the meantime, head over to our website here to find you a fabulous bar for your at home spa time.

4. Towel Warmer!

I can't recommend a towel warmer enough! I bought my husband this Zadro for Christmas several years ago. We absolutely love it. It changed the whole showering experience so much that we have given the Keenray Bucket Towel Warmer and the LiveFine Towel Warmer as gifts.

5. Music

I play music all the time especially when I'm relaxing in the tub, a hot shower or just getting ready for my day.  This Echo dot makes it easy to play my favorite playlists, plus it's kinda stylish.

6. Essential Oil Diffuser

Candles are great, I'm a sucker for a good candle but I also love my essential oil diffusers so much that I have one in every room, including the bathroom. I put this Lotus Flower Diffuser in my shower and drop eucalyptus essential oil on it before I get in. I love it because I can sit it right on the shelf in my shower since it's not electric. If you have space in your bathroom to plug an electric diffuser in I highly recommend this diffuser  I love the stylish, modern look of this one. I have the green one in my kitchen.  The only essential oils that I use are Rocky Mountain Oils https://rockymountainoils.com/a/rewards/r/hxDtNnGr   I highly recommend them!

7. Bathtub tray/caddy

Having one of these is a bathroom must. This bathtub tray  gives you a place to sit a book (or ipad, just don't know it into the water) your soap, razor, wine glass or tea cup.

8. Face Mask

A face mask feels super refreshing after a long day!

While reading a book or watching your favorite TV show, pamper yourself a bit with a face mask. Typically, face masks include ingredients that can hydrate your skin and give you a gorgeous, youthful glow. You can use sheet masks that mold to the shape of your face, or you can rub a thick liquid mask onto your face. Face masks are great for a weekly at-home routine that mentally transports you to your favorite spa.

Before using any face mask, I pull my hair back with my favorite Vintage Cosmetic Company make-up headband then start by dry brushing my face with a Wooden Face Brush .

I have found it's easier to apply a mask using a mask brush instead of my fingers. I like this set because it has the brush, spatula and a bowl to incase I want to mix another kind of mask

I like to change it up between a clay/mud mask like New York Biology Dead Sea Mud Mask and a peel off mask like the variety bundle from Freeman   Follow that up with a sheet mask like Ebanel 15 Pack Collagen Peptide Hydrating Face Masks or add some fun with these animal themed masks from Epielle Character Sheet Masks

After all that masking I take the time to use a Jade roller on my face. Now I don't know about any scientific, non-scientific, beneficial or non-beneficial things about using a roller like this but I do know that it feels really good. I love the feel of the coolness rolling it on my face.   A lot of people keep theirs in the fridge to make it cool but I find that mine seems to stay plenty cool just keeping it on my bathroom counter.

9. Lip Scrub

No spa facial is complete without a lip scrub.  You should use one frequently anyway to keep your lips smooth and soft.  Right now, I don't make a lip scrub or carry one online or in my boutiques, but I do use this coconut sorbet flavored one from Handmade Heros, it's an all-natural vegan lip scrub that gently exfoliates.  Ever since I started using a lip scrub my lips feel so much better and my lipstick goes on smoother.

10. Lotion

After soaking in the tub or relaxing in a hot shower, you can end your DIY spa experience with a hydrating moisturizer/lotion.  The Gold Bond Healing Lotion with aloe is simply wonderful.  It's pretty thick but doesn't feel heavy or greasy once applied. I'm not really a fan of overly scented lotions so I like the fact that this one has a light to no scent. Take your spa experience up a notch and put the Gold Bond Lotion in a lotion warmer!.  It's the most amazing feeling (second to a warm towel)

11. Massagers

Who says you can't get a good massage at home?  This affordable and rechargeable massage gun will loosen up those tight muscles in no time. If you're not comfortable using a massage gun then sit back, relax and let this Breo foot massager pamper those tired feet. This foot massager was a Christmas gift last year from one of my sons and is one of the most used gadgets in our house. It sits by the couch and everyone that comes over tries it out. Now, this next gadget was a Christmas gift I received this year, my other son is trying to get one up on his brother, I think. The rechargeable Renpho Eye Massager with heat is heaven.  I don't think you could get something that feels this good at a spa.  If you want to add 2 items to your at home spa then the Breo foot massager and the Renpho Eye mask are the two must haves.  I kid you not!

There's so much more that I could add to this list but this is a great start. When we remodeled our master bathroom I wanted it to be an escape, to feel calm and relaxing. All of these products have helped me to achieve that. You don't have to have a big fancy bathroom to create your at home spa.  With just a few simple items you can escape and relax even if it's with a bath bomb, some music and a drink. But just an FYI the Breo Foot Massager and the Penpho Eye Mask would make great Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Birthday, or Christmas gifts. If you need me to drop a hint to someone for you just let me know :)
